GIVEBACK 2025
GIVEBACK 2025
SUPPORTING BAY OF ISLANDS COLLEGE
Our first Giveback event brought together Red LBP inspectors and local students for a hands-on day of building and property challenges.
THE EVENT
A Hands-On Day with the Next Generation

The event brought together students from Bay of Islands College and surrounding schools, creating a hands-on experience designed to introduce practical building skills in a fun and engaging way.
Behind the scenes, the day required careful planning, with multiple challenge stations, sponsor involvement, and a structured format to ensure everything ran smoothly.
“It was great to connect with the students and share a bit of what we do. Seeing them get involved, ask questions, and really give it a go made the whole day pretty special.”
Kris Cain
Red LBP Inspector for Nelson Tasman
THE DAY
HOW IT WORKED

The event was built around a series of hands-on challenge stations, each run by Red LBP inspectors and designed to test practical building and problem-solving skills.
Students were split into small groups and rotated through each station on a timed schedule, with scores awarded across the day.

Challenges ranged from physical tasks like sawing timber, using tools, and manoeuvring equipment, through to identifying building defects, weathertightness risks, and drawing floor plans.
As the day progressed, the energy built, with students fully engaging in both the practical challenges and the competitive nature of the format.
THE IMPACT
WHAT IT DELIVERED

With support from sponsors including Bunnings, Sika, AEG, Dulux and Ryobi, the event brought together students, inspectors, and industry in a hands-on environment.
Sponsors were actively involved throughout the day, running stations, sharing knowledge, and engaging directly with students.
The focus was on experience and exposure, giving students a genuine insight into the trade and building confidence in a practical setting.
Despite challenging weather, the day was a success, with strong participation and positive feedback from students, teachers, and sponsors.
“It was great to be involved in an event like this. Seeing the students get hands-on, build confidence, and engage with the industry in a practical way is exactly what it’s all about.”
Dan Paltridge
Red LBP Director
THE FINISH
A Defining Moment

The day wrapped up with a prizegiving, recognising the effort across each of the challenges and awarding a range of prizes.
Following this, the students performed an impromptu haka for the Red LBP team, bringing the event to a powerful and memorable close.

It was a genuine moment that reflected the energy of the day and the connection built between everyone involved.
